Muncie to get high-tech parking meters near BSU.

MUNCIE, IN (September 17, 2014): The city’s parking meters are getting a high-tech upgrade.

The city board of works on Wednesday approved Muncie Redevelopment Commission Director Todd Donati’s request for a contract with Indianapolis-based Evens Time for the new meters, most of them to be placed in the Ball State University area.

The board approved a contract worth $149,817 for 16 electronic parking meters, each of which will oversee several parking spaces. The city will pay $32,000 a year and will own the meters after five years.

Donati estimated the new meters will generate $70,000 to $80,000 a year in revenue.

The meters will not be the standard mechanical meters like the city now owns and operates along Riverside and University avenues, however. Jonathan Evens of Evens Time said his company, which has been in business since 1934, has 350 of the new style meters in Indianapolis.
